Should I replace HVAC before adding insulation?
When there is a choice, envelope first usually produces a better outcome — because it changes what equipment the house needs.
Why order matters
Air sealing and insulation reduce the calculated heating and cooling load. Sizing new equipment before that work is done can lock in capacity the house will no longer need.
When replacement comes first
If the existing system has failed or is unsafe, replacement cannot wait. In that case we size the equipment with the planned envelope improvements factored into the calculation.
